As an expressive arts and trauma informed therapist, my goal is to create a safe space for clients to explore their experiences through a lens that bridges traditional talk therapy and that which is often unspoken. I understand how important it is for clients to maintain a therapeutic rapport that focuses on the intersectional relations of gender and racial identity while remaining sensitive to any difficulties rooted in trauma associated with these identities.
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy to aid in the development of healthy coping skills as well as positive and effective communication interventions. My passion is to provide clients that come from marginalized and disenfranchised communities with equal opportunities to receive mental health care, which is often disregarded due to financial disparities and/or cultural misconception. I am here to ensure that we work together to establish an empowering journey of wellness and healing.
Wherever you are in this moment, I will listen intentionally and assist you in moving through barriers by identifying your personal strengths and resiliency. I lean towards a warm, compassionate style with radical empathy, yet also offer directness when needed. I welcome cursing, crying, laughing - all are encouraged.
Alizae's focus areas:
LGBTQIA and BIPOC |As a queer woman of color, I find it important to utilize my identity and life experiences to help guide and inform others. I provide gender affirming care and work hard to obtain access to LGBTQ resources as a way to increase positive lived experiences for my communities. I also find it necessary to create space for processing the intersections of gender and racial identity as it relates to my BIPOC community as well.
Trauma | Trauma has become a term utilized to describe inherently negative impacts made by moments in time, people and places. When I process trauma with clients, I like to establish an understanding of what trauma can be outside of what it is defined as. Intergenerational trauma plays a large role in the development of symptoms associated with PTSD, and I strive to understand how our history is impacting our present day living.
Anxiety and Depression | Those struggling with Anxiety and Depression often have difficulty finding the motivation to continue participating in things they have once enjoyed. I strive to create a space where we can develop the necessary tools to manage emotions, create healthy coping skills, and identify preventative interventions.
Alizae's Ideal Client
My ideal client is someone who will trust in the process even when it gets uncomfortable. They will be as committed to their own healing journey as I am and will be understanding that healing is not linear
