Expert Care Rooted in Trauma-Informed and LGBTQIA+ Affirming Practices
Britt Carilli, LMSW
Life is the process of forging a fable. Sometimes, we may experience distressing events, encounter epic challenges, and struggle to balance the demands of life’s complexities with the expectations to which we are measured against. Through these hills and valleys, surges and stagnancies, we are often left feeling exhausted, hollow, frustrated, and alone; we’re left feeling that we are NPCs or even antagonists within our own tales. Therapy offers the ability to underscore your strengths, create new chapters, and re-center you as the protagonist.
Britt’s focus areas:
LGBTQIA2S+| As a queer, non-binary provider, both my personal and professional background inform my ability to develop and hold space for people of all gender identities, gender expressions, sexual orientations, and relationship orientations. LGBTQIA2S+ folx at any stage in their journey can benefit from therapy that affirms their unique traits, honors their scars and triumphs, and facilitates a stronger connection to community.
Neurodiversity| Traditional therapy models are historically developed with allistic clients in mind, which can make searching for the right fit as a neurodivergent client frustrating. As a neurodivergent-affirming therapist and an Autistic adult, my goal is to help clients unmask and embrace themselves through the rejection of behavior-based therapy models, social skills training, and punishment-reward conditioning. Neurodivergent clients can learn skills for self-advocacy in their personal and professional lives, identify and utilize their inherent strengths to meet their goals, and renew a sense of confidence through practice of acceptance and self-respect.
Sex Therapy and Relationships | Despite contributing both significant value and immense stress to many adults’ lives, sexual exploration and fulfillment are rarely discussed in therapy. Many factors can impact sexual enjoyment and functioning including mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. Clients may feel these challenges prevent them from physically and mentally responding to sex in a desirable way, shaking their self-esteem, relationship(s), energy, and mood. I utilize sex therapy techniques to help partners deconstruct barriers to enjoyable and safe sex, establish and honor clear boundaries, navigate intrapersonal power dynamics, strengthen connections, and embark on new sexual adventures. I am skilled in developing safe, non-judgmental, and knowledgeable spaces for all relationship orientations (monogamy, polyamory, ethical non-monogamy) as well as relationship dynamics involving clients of all genders and sexual orientations.
Trauma & EMDR | While each person may define what constitutes trauma differently based on their own lived experiences and values, research shows that the human brain reacts similarly. Regardless of the specific nature of the cause, trauma occurs when distressing events have changed the way one views themself and the world around them due to physical changes to the brain that intensify emotional responses and inhibit our ability to feel safe. As a trauma-trained clinician, I provide empathetic and competent Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy for efficient and effective healing from acute and chronic trauma. Additionally, I am trained in somatic EMDR for complex trauma to provide relief to survivors of repeated trauma, implicit/ unconscious trauma, or those who experience symptoms of dissociation, depersonalization, or derealization. For families or partners who survived a shared traumatic experience, I also provide group EMDR which provides additional grounding and facilitates recovery for all involved.
Britt’s ideal client:
Everyone is in a different place when they start therapy. Whether it’s their first or ninth time, or whether they view therapy as exciting or nerve wracking, my ideal client is ready to face the trials that line the road to a life worth living. My ideal client is willing to share their authentic self and be vulnerable and trusting enough for me to prove myself worthy of being their partner in their journey for growth.

Britt’s qualifications:
Years before I became a therapist, I started my career in mental health as a Psychiatric Technician in adult, elder adult, and adolescent inpatient behavioral health and dual-diagnosis units at numerous hospitals across Connecticut. After graduating from my Masters of Social Work program, I became a therapist for a community mental health provider in adult outpatient services, where I developed and implemented intensive outpatient programming for substance use disorders, individual therapy, MAT-assisted therapy, and group therapy. Since then, I have transitioned into group private practice where I provide Comprehensive DBT programming as a DBT-trained and EMDR-trained clinician. Over the past few years, I’ve identified a passion for working with diverse adults on overcoming trauma, expressing individuality, and reclaiming the power to write their life stories.

Britt’s Personal Information
I’m an iced latte fanatic whose mission is visiting every small coffee business in CT. I’m a proud dog mom to my Husky, Kara. I’m a huge nerd who has a love of video games, so-bad-they’re-good horror movies, and Star Trek. When I’m not in front of a screen, I can be found outside foraging wild plants in the woods or searching for wildlife.
